"Splendors of Light, The Colorado Plateau" by Lalo Fiorelli is a result of a six year project of exploring and photographing this extraordinary area. It is printed by the fine art division, of Tien Wah press, Singapore. It contains 129 images on 126 pages with large image reproductions. The book, fairly large, is formatted in landscape mode. The size was chosen to allow the viewer to fully appreciate the panoramic views of this land of "big" horizons.

The work was conducted in the fall and winter seasons, as this is when the most dramatic light conditions are present. To obtain the wonderful images involved being in place before the sun rose to be able to shoot through the sunrise light. Sometimes shooting until well after sunset too. To be able to take advantage of the light, we shot in all weather, from near blizzard snowstorms, to torrential rains. From near zero temperatures to, in early fall, temperatures in the high eighties. Frequently we got quite "painterly" looking results shooting through the precipitation as the light became quite diffuse.During winter, the ability of the Earth's atmosphere to bend the light, even reflecting it from the bottom of cloud layers after sunset, makes colors that are hard to believe.

The nickname for the area is “Red Rock Country”, which speaks to the brightly colored rock left bare to view by erosion. The area is famous for towering cliffs, winding rivers, and soaring arches.

It includes: Arches NP, Bryce NP, Canyonlands NP, Capitol Reef NP, Grand Canyon NP, Zion NP. Also, Monument Valley, The Dixie National Forest, and the Glen Canyon National Recreation area- of which Lake Powell is part. Images from all of these, and more, are found within these pages.
